Italy was once known as Enotria, “land of wines” (or perhaps more precisely, “land where the vines are supported by poles). Italy boasts myriad different grape varieties and terroirs, and so mit cannot help but produce a huge diversity of interesting and often unique wines. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Primitivo, Sagrantino, Ribolla Gialla, Garganega and much more are planted at completely different altitudes, with just as different topographies, geologies and climates. In this tasting, Ian D’Agata shines the spotlight on the wines from many small Italian estates that are still relatively unknown, some with very small productions and many of which are farmed sustainably, biodynamically and/or organically. Come discover new wineries you may have never heard of!
