At over 500 officially recognized wine grape varieties, Italy is the world leader in making wine not just from different grapes but also in many different categories and styles. It follows that every year, many new wines see the light of day in Italy, made either with long-forgotten grape varieties or by new methods of vinification, and Vinitaly is the perfect place in which to showcase the world-premiere presentations of such wines. This masterclass led by Ian D’Agata, world-renowned authority on Italy’s wine, shines the spotlight on wines that are at once innovative, rare and / or experimental: wines you have most likely never tasted, or even heard of. From first-time vinifications of grape varieties such as Pecorino, Neyret, and others from single vineyards or areas of Italy you do normally associate with the grapes and wines and yet are historically linked to both, to brand new, world premiere releases from well-known estates that after years of research and trials are releasing exciting, brand-new wines, this masterclass will highlight all that is great and unique about Italian wine.
