Welschriesling is making a comeback on the international wine scene, despite being burdened by a not-so-glorious past, for which the variety is in no way to blame. There are no good or bad wine varieties, only good and bad wines. But the wines are not to blame either. If the market accepts a certain wine, that is what it gets. It used to be that the big wine business provided a big market, while the distinction of the variety was irrelevant. Now everything is different: quality has grown, style has modernised, and all that is left is to dispel prejudices and past stereotypes. The featured dozen wines will surely be up to the task.
