You say gooseberry, I say guava – but are we really talking about the same thing? Every day, millions of consumers talk about wine, and the majority do it without a pretentious or complex lexicon. Despite this, the “language of wine” is largely dictated by wine critics and educational institutions. How do “we” make wine writing more inclusive? Is a more culturally inclusive lexicon needed? Should the focus be on the communicative and social functions of “wine language” rather than the specific vocabulary? Join Andrea Eby, Italian Programs Director at Wine Scholar Guild as we discuss the linguistic and social issues that are at the center of this discussion.
