A little history of Piazza dei Signori
Piazza dei Signori, also known as Piazza Dante, stands in the historic centre of Verona, adjacent to Piazza delle Erbe.
The square emerged in the Middle Ages alongside the development of the Scaliger palaces and from the very beginning had political, administrative and representative roles.
The statue of Dante was erected in the middle of the square in 1865, since the poet spent a period of his exile from Florence in a building overlooking this site. The statue, in Carrara marble, is the work of Ugo Zannoni.
